Advantage and Disadvantage of Distance Learning
Distance learning helps us in a better way to
continue our education. Internet, TV, satellite transmission and
worldwide web help in distance education programs. There are many
advantages as well as disadvantages of Distance Learning. This courses
are available any time and any place making it available for more
people. The students can study according to their own needs and
concentrate on what exactly their aim is. The learning process improves
the motivation and memory of students during the whole process.
Advantages of Distance Learning:
One of the biggest advantages is that this educational program via
Internet can be used by several groups of people in need of instructions
as the pupils, university students, and employed persons and also job
people. It helps in flexible time management. Distance learning provides
an advantage of providing challenge for the teacher to meet the needs
and expectations of many different participants. It helps students far
away from university or disabled persons to study.
People from different social, cultural and economic backgrounds come
together during these programs. The flexibility and interaction of
students increase with the use of computers and saves the cost of
educational requirements permanently established.
Disadvantages of Distance Learning:
The success of the course depends on the equipment used for learning. If
the equipment’s used are inadequate than the distance learning programs
may fail. Insufficient access to required computer equipment or lack of
essential computer skills and necessary motivation required to work
successfully are the main disadvantages in distance learning. So there
is possibility of students to avoid taking part in these courses.
Distance learning deals a lot with advanced technology so if
technological problems increase, focus from learning matter shifts to
the problems. There is lack of interaction between students and teacher.
There is no motivation resulting from the contact and competition among
students. The courses offered are also not flexible enough to include
all detailed information of the subject. The students face difficulty
with understanding and spontaneity falls by the wayside.
